Calgary 70.3 Beat Me Up...

5:12:32. Not very happy with this result but learned a few things to motivate me for my next race. Swim went pretty much as expected. Slow!!!  I was expecting a 40min swim and came in pretty close to that. Because i work away from home in remote areas, i do not have access to swimming facilities, i basically don’t swim. I think I’ve logged a total of 10000m since October 2016. The bike went exactly as planned. I wanted to keep my HR around 160 except for passing and any climbing. Legs felt great after the bike and i felt strong for the start of the run. Then at around km13 it all went to hell. Ended up walking pretty much the rest of the way. I guess when you stop sweating, you probably haven’t had enough fluid...

Dude, the swim was long - for sure - and basically mass start with heavy traffic all the way. Didn't have my gps watch on, but in the finish area, several people confirmed my suspicion that it was long. Also, drafting was rampant on the second half of the bike course (against the wind). Yelled and tried to brake up the drafters, but they just looked at me as if I was crazy. Hot day out there, fluid intake was super important. Good race.
